Project: Enhancing Community Climate Options for Adaptation and Resilience in Mongolia (ECCO-FARM)

About the Project:
The ECCO-FARM project aims to improve the livelihoods of rural Mongolians and build resilience through the adoption of Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA), Agriculture Nature-based Solutions (AgNBS), and biodiversity protection. The project focuses on sustainable production, agricultural growth, food security, and climate change adaptation (CCA).
Role Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Pasture and Livestock Specialist to support capacity building for improved pasture management and livestock development in Mongolia. The Specialist will work closely with herders, farmers, local officials, and various stakeholders to implement CSA, AgNBS, and CCA practices.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and collaborate with international experts, local governments, implementing partners (MULS, IPAS, RIAH, NFPUG), NAMEM, and herders on rangeland monitoring and livestock management strategies.
  • Develop and implement pasture and livestock management plans with herder communities.
  • Develop capacity building activities to increase livestock productivity, enhance resilience and reduced emission.
  • Develop and deliver training programs on sustainable pasture and livestock management.
  • Elaborate the concept note and ToR for model projects and support the implementation of model projects.
  • Support the development and implementation of climate change adaptation plans.
  • Promote the production of forage/fodder for winter feeding.
  • Integrate climate-smart agricultural practices with cover crops and livestock.
  • Support PES programs to invest in biodiversity and pasture improvement.
    Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in range management, animal science, environmental science, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in range and pasture management and livestock production in Mongolia.
  • Proven experience with rangelands, pastures, and livestock production.
  • Familiarity with Ecological Site Group (ESG) and State and Transition Models (STM) for Mongolian rangelands.
  • Knowledge of pasture monitoring by NAMEM.
  • Fluent in English and Mongolian.
